And only in the XII century the monks left their monastery because of a series of strong hurricanes. But monks often came here to restore order there, and from the XVI century hundreds of pilgrims rushed into it. In 1986, this place was restored and opened for tourists. They come here for breathtaking landscapes, as well as to see with their own eyes the ancient walls of the monastery.
9. Spotty Lake, Canada
In British Columbia, there is the salt mineral lake Spottend Lake, which translates as "spotted lake." Another name is Kliluk. It impresses with its appearance, because the landscape resembles an extraterrestrial. The entire surface of the lake is covered with spots of different colors, with a solid border. 8. Ta Prohm, Cambodia
In Angkor, there is a unique Ta Prum Temple, which was built by Jayavarman VII to perpetuate the memory of his mother. Once it was a monastery and university, in which 12,640 people lived. The peculiarity of this temple is that it was left in its original form, i.e. did not begin to clear it of the ingrown jungle. Once it was one of the richest monasteries, which independently contained 102 hospitals, free of charge helping the local population. In the 15th century, the temple became abandoned, and only in the 20th century they began to restore it. Restorers did not cut down the trees. Huge banyan trees with aerial roots amaze tourists for whom Ta Prom has become a favorite destination. The movie “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” was once shot here, after which it was nicknamed the Temple of Angelina Jolie.
