A tank is a special armored fighting vehicle, which in most cases is tracked. It has cannon or machine gun weapons.
Word "tank" in English means "tank or tank". Intended for solving any basic combat missions. Such vehicles included high mobility, as well as protection and firepower.
They first appeared during the First World War. Finally, the model was made by 1916. After insignificant tests, about 100 of such machines arrived on the order.
The first tank that appeared in Russia was made by Vasily Mendeleev - a Russian engineer and inventor. After graduating from an engineering school, he began working at shipyards in St. Petersburg. In his spare time, he built the best land combat vehicle.
Want to know how much the largest tank in the world weighs? We present to you the rating of heavy and powerful machines of the times of the USSR, the modern developments of Russia and other countries - weapons that left a mark in history.

10. Object 279, 60 t
Object 279 - This is one of the famous Soviet tanks, which was built in 1957. The leader of this project was considered the Soviet designer of armored vehicles - Troyanov. Initially, this particular machine was intended to break through the prepared defense of the enemy.
It was created according to a simple classical scheme. At that time, there was such a situation that almost all Soviet vehicles had any drawbacks, which is why the Ministry of Defense decided to develop several parameters that should have been distinguished by the new tank built.
He was supposed to weigh no more than 60 tons and be equipped with at least 130 guns. Object 279 became a new exclusive tank, which even now is considered an unusual type of armored vehicles. Its distinctive features were impressive cross-country ability and rather high security.
It is worth noting that armored vehicles could work even in conditions of radiation infection. The first tests were carried out in 1959. But then several serious errors were noted. Later, the engineers brought him to mind, and made one of the most protected tanks of the Soviet army.
But, unfortunately, the history of this particular machine was over and all work was stopped. Currently, a single copy is kept in Kubinka.
9. Tsar tank, 60 t
Tsar Tank known to everyone as the largest in the world. It was developed by Nikolai Lebedenko in 1914. The first thing that catches your eye at the sight of it is the huge wheels.
The designer decided to use the example of classic Asians carts. Such large wheels could easily overcome almost any bumps. The main element - the machine gun, was placed at a height of more than 8 meters. But because of his awesome appearance, he was nicknamed the Tsar Tank or Mammoth.
It is worth noting that even Nicholas II himself was very impressed with this model. Donated about 210,000 rubles to finance the project. Already the first tests were carried out shortly after its construction. The front wheels broke almost all the trees, like chips. But, unfortunately, the back is constantly stuck in soft ground.
Until 1917, this tank was in the forest under special protection. After the Bolsheviks came to power, this rather huge construction lasted seven whole years, and then in 1923 it was dismantled for scrap.
8. TOG I, 65 t
Finally work on Tog i were discontinued in 1944. Currently, only one copy has been preserved, which is located in the tank museum.
Its history is rather unusual, as it was developed by the Committee for the Development of Special Equipment in Great Britain. Then he served in the army for some time. The first tests passed already in 1941, but did not last long.
7. Char 2C, 75 t
Char 2c - This is a French tank that was developed during the First World War. But it is worth noting that he did not participate in hostilities.
Attempts to build such a machine began in 1917. Its release was approved, and in 1919 it was estimated that about 300 units of such equipment would be produced. But after the war ended, production was completed. As a result, a total of 10 such tanks were manufactured.
Each machine was equipped with special engineering obstacles. Outwardly, it represented a rhombic form, which is covered by caterpillar tapes. Much attention was paid to inside observation.
The designers put inside several observation caps. The crew consisted of only 12 people.
6. A-30 Tortoise, 78 t
A-30 Tortoise - This is one of the British assault heavy tanks that were designed during the Second World War.
Unfortunately, it was not put into production. The design had strong firepower and special protection inside and out. But it is worth noting that the tower was not at all rotary.
5. T-28 Turtle, 86 t
T-28 Turtle - This super heavy tank was used during World War II in the United States of America. It has been developed since about 1943. But since it was precisely designed only at the end of the war, construction was stopped afterwards. Only a few such instances have been created.
During the construction, the researchers decided that to strengthen the defensive lines, they may be needed in Europe. The Department indicated that literally in a year about 25 such tanks should be produced.
It was supposed to create a reckless squat tank, which could go absolutely anywhere.
4. E100, 140 t
E100 - This is a certain series of German tanks, which was developed during the Second World War. In 1942, a special research group was convened, which decided to develop a number of completely new machines. The work went pretty slowly. Almost all the main forces were on ensuring this production.
Such tanks were supposed to maximize the protection of the frontal part, as well as create a single unit for the transmission. It was this machine that was fundamentally different from many others.
3. FCM F1, 145 t
FCM F1 - This is a special French super heavy tank. Originally intended to replace another machine. But by the 30s he was very outdated.
Soon new manufacturing requirements were identified, and they began in 1936. It was supposed to create a more improved version of such a tank. It is worth noting that the thickness of the armor on the machine was almost 100 mm. The French felt that such a large, durable car could not be pierced. It is currently considered one of the heaviest tanks.
He had a large carrying capacity, and was also invulnerable to enemy fire. Unfortunately, only some models have survived to our time.
2. Kolossal-wagen, 150 t
Kolossal-wagen - This is a heavy German tank, which was created during the First World War. They differed from other models in their large weight and size.
Unfortunately, by the end of hostilities, not a single tank was completed to the end. And the very first instance was completely destroyed.
It was planned to create more than 100 types of military equipment. It is worth noting that the tank was thought to be equipped with a special radio station with a fairly long range. The crew was at least 22 people.
Later, scientists came to the conclusion that even if these machines were put into production, they had little or no effect on the course of hostilities.
1. Maus, 180 t
Maus - This is one of the most original and specific tanks. Designed a "gun" in the Third Reich in 1942.
Currently, it is considered the largest of all by mass. Only 2 copies of such a machine are known, but they did not take part in the hostilities.
The crew was only 6 people. It is worth noting that the car was made at the highest technological level. Nowadays it is stored only in a museum.
